About the Job:

A kamai’s Enterprise Business Unit is seeking a Senior Product Architect to design new features and capabilities for our suite of networking, security, and application access products. The Architecture Team provides technical leadership across all phases of product definition and development. Your primary focus will be to define the technical roadmap, drive product design, and support development across various cross-organizational teams. You will work with customers and internal stakeholders to scope and develop new product ideas, build working prototypes and proof of concepts, produce high level designs in compliance with our internal product development process, and support multiple engineering teams in their efforts to implement these new features.

About the Team:

The Enterprise Engineering team builds products that enable enterprises to shift their business critical traffic to the Internet, allowing them to securely and reliably leverage cloud-based application solutions while at the same time providing policy based access to internal applications. Our solution set spans the full protocol stack, from the network and transport layers up through the secure session layer and reaching the application layer. We offer products for network performance, transparent caching, threat detection, content-based policy, identity integration, and secure application access, with exciting opportunities for innovation in all of these areas.


Provide architectural definition and guidance across the full product lifecycle

Design systems that address both core customer requirements and time-to-market goals

Collaborate with architects across Akamai to design supporting platform capabilities

Guide system and component design efforts through standards, review, and mentoring

Drive innovation by contributing product ideas and building prototypes

Influence the technical roadmap through customer, partner, and industry engagement

Support product adoption with white-papers, presentations, and white-board talks

Basic Qualifications:


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent experience8+ years experience with software or systems engineering4+ years experience with systems architecture and design for large-scale, high-availability, distributed systems4+ years experience working with Internet protocols and concepts (IP, TCP, TLS, HTTP, DNS, IPsec)

Desired Qualifications:

* Strong written and verbal communication skills* Deep understanding of Internet security systems, including content inspection, identity integration, firewalls, and malware detection* Deep understanding of the enterprise security market and customers’ technical requirements in the space* Ability to build consensus across business and technical groups* Experience designing and implementing software to integrate with Internet-based platforms, including client applications for desktop, mobile, and network device platforms* Experience designing and implementing enterprise network systems, including virtual devices for both container and VM environments* Experience working with Cloud-Based SaaS networking products and IaaS platforms, including the use of common microservices for platform integration* Experience building products that leverage “Big Data” for network and security analytics and/or development of threat intelligence* Experience in software development and systems-level programming in C or C++
