About the Job:

If you have a deep passion for security, love handling massive data sets, and get excited from solving hard problems, Akamai is the place for you. We are seeking a highly motivated security researcher who will work on developing the next generation of Akamai's security products to protect our global customer base from APT attacks, cybercrime, and other malware threats. The Security researcher will be a member of Akamai’s enterprise security team, and will focus on analyzing security landscape threats, define and design security product elements and research, publish and present security papers and blogs.

Major Responsibilities:

•Research malicious threats, C&C communications, compromised clients and domains, in order to identify common malicious patterns

•Design implementable methods to identify and overcome threats using Akamai's data platform

•Support customer’s security response teams in analyzing threats

•Acquire, analyze and integrate external data sources and tools into Akamai’s cloud security intelligence platform

•Work closely with our engineers to deliver detection and prevention mechanism

•Contribute to security communities through papers, blogs, and presentations

Major Qualifications:

•Strong understanding of malware communications, botnet architectures, exploit kit delivery techniques

•Strong understanding of the web networking stack, mainly DNS & HTTP(S), and common real world practices

•4 years minimum of real-world security experience, including tracking and investigating cyber threats

•Extensive coding and scripting capabilities in Python or similar, and in SQL

•Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent experience

•Creative, innovative, versatile individual, willing and able to explore new territories and solve hard problems

•Highly responsible, self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated, able to work in a fast paced, results oriented environment

•Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Desired Qualifications:

•Experience with malware reverse engineering — highly desired

•Experience with data mining or machine learning — a major advantage

•Experience with big data systems and Hadoop in particular — will be appreciated
