Summary:

The job is to be the "data eyes and ears" guiding the product team. We're building innovative, exciting products used by many millions of people around the world. The data scientist finds what's working, what can be improved, what's missing. While not a management role, the data scientist drives strategy and roadmap of a large number of engineers and designers.

Suited for people with several years' experience studying data to guide product development. The key attributes needed are: mastery of SQL, strong quantitative logic, core statistical knowledge, instinctive product sense and focus on real-world impact. These qualities are more important than exact experience/level. Current team members who hold this role have worked as web developers, VP's in startups, "growth hackers", data analysts, medical researchers, digital strategists for Beyonce, and more.

Required Skills:

  1. Apply your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how our users interact with our growth products.

  2. Partner with Product and Engineering teams to solve problems and identify trends and opportunities

  3. Inform, influence, support, and execute our product decisions and product launches.

  6. Working in hadoop and hive primarily, sometimes mysql, oracle, and vertica

  7. Authoring pipelines via SQL and python based ETL framework

  8. Building key data sets to empower operational and exploratory analysis

  11. Setting goals

  12. Designing and evaluating experiments monitoring key product metrics, understanding root causes of changes in metrics

  13. Building and analyzing dashboards and reports

  14. Exploratory Analysis

  15. Proposing what to build in the next roadmap

  16. Understanding ecosystems, user behaviors, and long-term trends

  17. Identifying levers to help move key metrics

  18. Evaluating and defining metrics

  19. Building models of user behaviors for analysis or to power production systems

  20. XFN Influence

  21. Influencing product teams through presentation of work

  22. Communicating of state of business, experiment results, etc to product teams

  23. Spreading best practices to analytics and product teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 4+ years experience at quantitative analysis, preferably for a web or mobile company

  2. BA/BS in Math, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative field

  3. Proven experience leading data driven projects from definition to execution

  4. Fluency in SQL

  5. Python, R or any other scripting language – big advantage

  6. The ability to communicate the results of analyses in a clear and effective manner

  7. A fast thinker, multi tasking and highly independent
